Neue Herausforderungen für zivile Krisenprävention und Konfliktbearbeitung

Erstmals seit dem Ende des Ost-West-Konflikts wird Europa als Ganzes durch einen militärischen Großkonflikt bedroht. Der völkerrechtswidrige Angriffskrieg Russlands gegen die Ukraine markiert eine „Zeitenwende“, wodurch sich die Frage der Friedens- und Sicherheitsordnung in Europa und auf globaler Ebene neu stellt.

Der Berlin Peace Dialogue 2022 richtet dieses Jahr das Augenmerk auf Effektivität und Grenzen derzeit genutzter Instrumente sowie Innovationen im Feld ziviler Krisenprävention und Konfliktbearbeitung. In verschiedenen Formaten werden institutionelle Strukturen und Praktiken der Krisenfrüherkennung und ziviler Konfliktbearbeitung auf den Prüfstand gestellt und deren Funktionsfähigkeit in einer stark gewandelten Welt diskutiert. Schwerpunkt der Konferenz liegt auf Auswirkungen des russischen Angriffskrieges auf zivile Mittel der Krisenbewältigung, insbesondere im osteuropäischen Raum.

Der diesjährige Berlin Peace Dialogue bietet aufschlussreiche Erfahrungsberichte und Perspektiven von internationalen Praktiker:innen, Wissenschaftler:innen,  politischen Entscheidungsträger:innen und Friedensaktivist:innen.

Europe in the Shadow of War:
New Challenges for Civilian Crisis Prevention and Conflict Management

Save the date: 29 September 2022, 10.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m, Federal Foreign Office, Berlin

For the first time since the end of the East-West conflict, the whole of Europe is threatened by a major military conflict. Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine represents a blatant breach of the principles of the United Nations Charter and marks a „Zeitenwende“, a turning point. This raises anew the question of the peace and security order, both in Europe and at the global level.

The Berlin Peace Dialogue 2022 will therefore focus on the effectiveness and limitations of instruments currently in use as well as on the potential of innovations in the field of civil crisis prevention and conflict management. In various formats, the current national and European institutional structures and instruments of early warning and civil crisis prevention will be scrutinized and discussed against the backdrop of Russia’s aggression. One main emphasis will be on the impact of Russia’s war of aggression on civilian means of crisis management, particularly in the Eastern European region.

This year’s Berlin Peace Dialogue will offer insightful testimonials and perspectives from international practitioners, researchers, policy makers and peace activists.

The conference language is English (with simultaneous translation). The program and details on how to register and participate (on-site or digitally) will be released in late August.
