PD Dr Julia Leininger is head of the department ‘Transformation of political (dis)order’ at the IDOS (Institute of Development and Sustainability, formerly the German Development Institute, DIE) in Bonn. She has been a member of the Advisory Board since June 2023 and was elected Co-Chair in January 2025.

Julia Leininger’s research and policy advise focuses on long-term socio-political change as an important component of crisis prevention and peacebuilding. Democratisation, social cohesion, societal peace and political futures are at the centre of her interests. The regional focus of her work is on Africa.

In her capacity as policy adviser, she worked for the United Nations Development Programme in Mali and worked at the Goethe Institute in Santiago de Chile. She completed her doctorate at the University of Heidelberg and the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF). She was a board member of the Stiftung Entwicklung und Frieden until the end of 2023.

Work projects
