21st Conference of the Heads of German Missions

German representatives from around the world are meeting at the Federal Foreign Office for the 21st Conference of Heads of German Missions Abroad. The chair of the Federal Government's Advisory Council on Civilian Crisis Prevention and Peacebuilding is also present.

From September 4-7, 2023, the heads of the German embassies, consulates general and permanent missions met at the Federal Foreign Office for the annual conference. The conference brings together personalities from business, diplomacy, politics, culture and civil society with the German ambassadors, consuls general and permanent representatives for an intensive exchange. The German Advisory Council on Civilian Crisis Prevention and Peacebuilding was represented by its Co-Chair Lars Wagner.

The conference was opened by Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, who placed a special focus on international partnerships. She posed key guiding questions for the following debates:

“How can we strengthen our partnerships in a world in which an increasing number of players are fighting for influence? How, amid a host of crises, can we manage not to opt for isolation, nationalism and populism, but for openness, for cooperation which reflects the interests of all partners and which benefits above all those people who need it most?”
