New statement from the Advisory Board on the further development of the German crisis guidelines

In this statement, the Advisory Board on Civilian Crisis Prevention and Peacebuilding reviews the implementation of the guidelines and makes recommendations for further development in specific priority areas.

As a central task, the Advisory Board monitors the implementation of the crisis guidelines, Germany’s peace policy principles from 2017, and formulates the need for action vis-à-vis the Federal Government. In 2024, the further development process of the guidelines will take place, taking into account the Zeitenwende and the age of new realities and non-traditional security risks. The Advisory Board welcomes the comprehensive further development of the Federal Government’s guidelines ‘Preventing Crises, Managing Conflicts, Promoting Peace’.

A thorough further development of the guidelines should retain their proven principles, but critically reflect on the experience gained from the effects, successes and failures of previous practices and instruments. To this end, the Advisory Council makes its recommendations in this statement along specific thematic areas.
