Stakeholder Discussion on the further development of the crisis guidelines in the German Bundestag

On April 24, 2024, several members of the Advisory Board participated in the stakeholder discussion of the Green parliamentary group in the Bundestag on the further development of the crisis guidelines.

On April 24, the Green parliamentary group in the Bundestag held a stakeholder discussion on the further development of the Federal Government of Germany Guideslines on “Preventing Crises, Resolving Conflicts and Buidling Peace”. Ginger Schmitz, Bodo von Borries and Co-Chair Lars Wagner participated in the event on behalf of the Federal Government’s Advisory Board on Civilian Crisis Prevention and Peacebuilding.

The guidelines have taken the Federal Government’s work in the field of civil crisis prevention and peacebuilding to a new strategic level. However, the global situation has changed significantly since they were adopted in 2017. The Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, the German National Security Strategy adopted in 2023 and a multiple crisis situation call for a substantial revision of the previous guidelines.

Niklas Wagener and Ottmar von Holtz, members of the Green parliamentary group in the Bundestag and members of the Subcommittee on United Nations, International Organizations and Civilian Crisis Prevention, discussed with the invited guests their respective expectations of the further development, the process to date and, above all, which aspects should be included in the revision of the guidelines.
