Dr Jörn Grävingholt is Senior Researcher and Project Leader on the research programme “Transformationen politischer (Un-)Ordnung” [Transformations of Political (Dis-)Order] at the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) in Bonn. Within the Advisory Board he worked on the Peace Policy Coherence within Germany’s Africa Policy as well as the Implementation of the Federal Government’s Guidelines project.

At the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS), Dr Jörn Grävingholt coordinates the subject cluster Fragility, Conflict and Displacement. His research foci include fragile statehood, peacebuilding, the causes of displacement, migration policy, the promotion of governance and democracy, and the development dynamics of non-democratic regimes.

Before he joined the DIE, he studied political development in Russia (1992–2002), including from 1994 to 1997 as part of the Institute for East European Studies’ research training group at the FU Berlin, and from 1997 to 2000 as a research assistant at the Bundesinstitut für Ostwissenschaftliche und Internationale Studien [Federal Institute for Eastern and International Studies] in Cologne.

From 2011 to 2018 he was Co-Chair of the Advisory Board for Civilian Crisis Prevention and Peacebuilding.
