Prof. Andreas Heinemann-Grüder is Senior Researcher at the Bonn International Centre for Conflict Studies. On the Advisory Board, he coordinates the Protection Zones project.

Prof. Andreas Heinemann-Grüder has been teaching political science at the University of Bonn since 2006. He was awarded his doctorate in 1989 by the FU Berlin after a research degree at the Moscow State University (1987/88) and qualified as a lecturer with his postdoctoral dissertation in 1999 at the HU Berlin. Heinemann-Grüder taught at the FU Berlin (1990–92), the HU Berlin (1993–96 and 2000–2002), Duke University (1995) and the University of Pennsylvania (1996–99).

From 1999 to 2010 he was Senior Researcher at the Bonn International Centre for Conflict Studies, and he has held this position again since 2015. From 2007 to 2010 he was co-editor of the annual Peace Report and from 2010 to 2012 Director of the Academy for Conflict Transformation Bonn/Cologne. Following this (2013–2014), he worked at the Georg-Eckert Institute (part of the Leibniz Association) in Brunswick.

His research foci lie within peace and conflict research, authoritarian political regimes and comparative federalism research.
