Lieutenant General (retired) Rainer L. Glatz

Lieutenant General (retired) Rainer Glatz was formerly the commander of the Bundeswehr Operations Command. On the Advisory Board, he is involved in the Public Communication and Civilian Crisis Prevention as well as the Protection Zones project.

Lieutenant General (retired) Rainer L. Glatz was formerly a Senior Distinguished Fellow of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) as well as the chair of the former 15th Advisory Council on Leadership Development and Civic Education at the German Minister of Defence.

He was a professional soldier for 44 years. Most recently, from 2006 to 2009, he was the incumbent and Deputy Commander, and from 2009 to 2013 he was the Commander of the Bundeswehr Operations Command. Prior to this, he was Commander of the Special Operations Division (2002–2006), Commander of the Jägerbrigade 37 “Freistaat Sachsen” (1998–2001), Commander of the German/French Group (DFGFA/Brigade Centre) within the SFOR Operation in Sarajevo and Personal Assistant (Office Manager) to the head of department 2 (Horst Teltschik) at the German Chancellery (1987–1989) in Bonn.

Lieutenant General (retired) Rainer L. Glatz completed British and German general staff training. He held various staff officer and commander positions at national level and at NATO.

Today, Rainer L. Glatz also carries out a wide range of voluntary activities.
