Melanie Hauenstein heads the “country desk” of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP in New York) for Libya, the Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, the Maghreb and Djibouti. Her focus on the Advisory Board is the Implementation of the Federal Government’s Guidelines project.
Melanie Hauenstein has been working for the United Nations for over 15 years on UN peace missions, at the UNDP and at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA). Her work has taken her to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Sudan, Central America and Mali. In Mali she ran the MINUSMA Stabilisation Programme in Gao and the MINUSMA regional office in Mopti. As part of a sabbatical year in Berlin, she was a visiting researcher at the Center for International Peace Operations (ZIF), and she published research on Mali.
